From Shadow Burnout to Sustained Edge.

Energised by possibility. Exhausted by the pace.

Burning out while still hitting your targets

High achievers rarely burn out in public. They keep delivering — the decisions, the team, the responsibility — while the cost shows up privately. Thinking takes more effort. Focus is harder to hold. Recovery never quite completes. Eventually, depleted starts to feel normal.

That territory is Shadow Burnout: burning out while still performing.

It shows up in ordinary moments. The afternoon when your thinking slows and you push through. The evening when you are home but your mind is still at work. The night’s sleep that does not feel enough. The doubt about your own ability that arrives when you are tired, whatever your record says. The crash that follows a crisis you handled well.

It is not a verdict on your capability

Shadow Burnout is not the price of ambition, and depletion is not proof that you have reached your limit. State can restrict access to capability you still possess.

That changes the response. More discipline is not automatically the answer. Neither is less ambition. The work is to restore capacity, reduce unnecessary load where you can, and build responses that help you use your capability when you need it.

Never judge your capability from a depleted state.

Sustained edge is not intensity. It is the ability to stay clear, calm and effective — hour after hour — without burning out.

Knowing is not usually the problem

You may already know that better sleep, protected focus, clearer boundaries and recovery would help. The difficulty is using those things when work is already full and your capacity is low.

Information is not capability. A technique that makes sense when you read about it is only useful if you can find it, remember it and use it in the middle of a difficult Thursday.

Knowing what works is not enough. It has to become something you use when it matters.

How I work with you

This is the coaching I have done for more than sixteen years with founders, executives, lawyers, judges and other high achievers.

We start with the situations you are actually in — the afternoon crash, the back-to-back day, the board meeting, the conflict that has escalated — and with where you are losing most.

First, we identify the bottleneck. When overload or depletion is constraining useful thought, state comes first. At other times the useful move is to direct attention, change the way you are appraising the situation, prepare more effectively or alter the demand itself.

Then we build trained responses: how you prepare for what is coming, how you regulate or mobilise your state, how you talk to yourself in the middle of it, and how you recover afterwards.

Then we make it usable. What works is attached to recognisable moments in your real day, practised before you need it and reviewed after use. The aim is a small personal repertoire you can reach for without searching a library when you are already overloaded.

And where the pressure itself can be changed, we change it. Sometimes the most useful move is to reduce a demand, alter an arrangement or get support.

What this is not

Not wellness. Not another productivity system. Not a catalogue of techniques to collect.

This is practical performance work for people carrying real consequence — and a better way to carry ambition.

It is also not therapy or medical treatment. Sudden, persistent or unexplained symptoms belong with an appropriate healthcare professional.

The Sustained Edge platform

The same work, built into a membership.

You start with the situation you are in rather than a course you have to complete. One part covers everyday capacity: overload, always-on work, back-to-back demands, the afternoon crash and recovery. The other covers consequential pressure: pitches, negotiations, presentations, interviews, difficult conversations and moments when the plan changes.

Each route offers a small number of practical, research-backed tools taught by me on film, with clear guidance on when they fit and how to use them.

Live Execution Lab sessions help you choose what fits, adapt it and put it into real use.

No course to complete. Nothing to keep up with. Think of it as an instrument panel: go to the situation, find the response, use what helps.
